In the world of television, where actors are known by the characters they chose, TV heartthrob Gautam Rode believes in carving a journey of his own. He rose to fame with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s television series Saraswatichandra, is all set to with his upcoming release Aksar 2.13-dsc01500_low-res

For Gautam, acting happened by chance. “I casually went to Mumbai for modelling with an aim to get back and join my family business. However, after my father losing his ticket to stockbroking, I decided to head back to Mumbai and do more of modelling”.

‘It is either shortcuts or long cuts; I believe in taking long cuts’ Professional acting started for him in 2005-2006 when he made his debut with Baa, Bahoo Aur Baby. That struggle from almost 1999 to 2005 was a journey of his learning and understanding the industry.

“I am an extrovert, but I also have my phases,” shares Gautam. An averse to crowded places and locations, he loves spending time with his set of friends at quiet zones. “I talk to everyone but if I am in my zone, I like my peace, my room and some time with myself.” Not at all a party animal, his likes and dislikes are simple. For someone who loves being homebound, his outings are mostly limited to work.

‘I take my gym along with me’

I take my gym along wherever I go. The shooting can be anywhere. While I was shooting in Gujarat, I had my gym set up right across the apartment where I was living. If anything that keeps me motivated and up apart from acting, it is hitting the gym on a daily basis and working out peacefully.”

Each role has something of you in it

Having acted in shows with different roles and temper, Gautam believes that each role has something of you in it. “When I did Saraswatichandra, the character of Saras was calm, composed and that is who i am in real life. However, my role in Mahakumbh, in the initial episodes, was a total opposite of what I am. That character was always angry and I don’t see myself like that ever.

‘I miss the hot chocolate fudge from Nirulas’

“My life in Delhi was comfortable and I was known to everything around me. This is the major reason that I wanted to get back in the initial days. However, the day I decided to live in Mumbai and started my routine out here, this place also grew on me. I love both these cities. Delhi will always be special as it is my hometown and I have lived the most amazing years of my life there.

He steers away from rumours

Getting romantically linked with people as well as other rumours are part of an actor’s life, says Gautam, adding that he never pays too much attention to these. “You just need to smile through this because I don’t know how to react. If you try to justify, it gets worse.”

‘Reality Televsion is not my cup of tea’

“I don’t think reality television is my forte. I like acting more than reality TV as you have a character to play, you have something to learn, something to comprehend. I have never seen myself fitting into the frame of reality TV.”
