Laser hair removal has been around for a few years now and is generally acknowledged to be the most convenient and permanent way to reduce body hair and facial hair for the long term. However, even today, there are some misconceptions floating out there, about skin turning black, developing acne and people with sensitive skin reacting badly to the treatment. So, in order to debunk some myths and also provide an insider’s perspective, we decided to try it out at one of the pioneers of the treatment in Delhi, the Safdarjung center of Clinic Dermatech.

The Clinic was chosen as it has 17 years of Experience offering advanced skincare treatments in the Country, it has been awarded the Country’s best Hair and Skin Clinic 2022 by the Brand’s Academy, has only FDA approved technologies and nothing experimental that might provide adverse effects. Furthermore, with over 20 clinics, it is extremely convenient to find a Clinic nearby at a convenient location, thus making it a popular choice for over 1 lakh clients over the years.

The Experience

Over the phone, during the time of making the appointment, we were told that the only two things required before the session were to refrain from waxing or threading that part of the skin two days before the treatment and come with a freshly cleaned face. From the moment we walked in, the first thing we noticed was the staff. Discreet, professional and incredibly warming, they set out to assist us with everything we needed and provide us with all the relevant information about the session.

The person at the reception was happy to make us comfortable and give us a brief background of the Clinic and all the services being offered there. Thereafter, we were introduced to the technician who would be conducting the session. Her name was Kajal and she told us that while being subject to every client’s different physiology, the average number of sessions recommended to anyone for reducing hair growth were 8 and while the first 2-3 sessions were conducted monthly, the next few, depending on the level of hair growth and effect of the laser, would be conducted with longer gaps of 6 weeks, two months and sometimes even longer.

The fact that this was the first session meant there were also many doubts and questions about the experience, the level of pain involved and the post care. Kajal patiently answered all our questions and informed us that the pain would be absolutely minimal and dependent on nature of growth as well. The only slight side effect that could be expected, only for some people, would be a mild redness in that area which also faded away after about an hour. Thus, there would be no need for any down time afterwards.

After that the eyes were sealed off with medical dark glasses to prevent any side effects from the laser and the session commenced. A thin layer of a cold gel was applied to the skin and when I asked for its’ purpose, we were told it was to keep the area cool and prevent irritation at a later stage.

Once it started, the “pain” turned out to be a mild stinging that was instantly soothed by the gel. Further, we also realized it could be stopped or reduced whenever needed and the technician was kind enough to keep explaining every step, she took to soothe any and all apprehension that might have been felt.

Post – Session Care

At the end, she suggested staying away from hot water, heavy sweating and face wash/soap products on the treated area for the next 24 hours. She further prescribed 2 medicated creams, created by their own team which would help to keep the area hydrated and reduce hair growth till the next session.

Review

Quick, easy and relatively painless, any person who has ever gotten waxed or threaded will realise that this option is not only less painful than those methods but also very effective. There was also no breakouts or redness afterwards and only a gentle tingling sensation during the session that was perfectly tolerable. Anyone looking to have their hair reduced may take a trial session to experience the service once, and I don’t think they will be able to go back to the traditional methods after that. More information will be provided in real time after the next session so stay tuned to read updates of every session.
