Guppy, part of the Olive Group of Restaurants, celebrates 11 years of vibrant and playful Japanese culinary excellence—a decade plus one of bringing a colorful wonderland to life! The little Japanese haven is playing around with fresh, fun, and yummy flavors in a special menu this August-September! Guppy, where Japanese food is so much more than seafood, has been known for its wide selection of vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes. The birthday menu by Head Chef Saurabh Sharan is fresh and inventive, for this special month.

Known for its playful take on traditional Japanese dishes and pop-art-inspired decor, Guppy has become a staple in the city’s culinary scene. This year marks a significant milestone as Guppy celebrates eleven whole years of redefining traditional Japanese dining with its innovative approach.  The restaurant’s love for fresh and inventive Japanese cuisine shines through its new menu and one can toast with the yummiest dessert cocktails by Nishant K Gaurav, the Barkeep for Guppy. There are also a host of fun activities and events planned that are sure to delight and surprise.

For its eleventh birthday, Guppy has crafted a selection of dishes that encapsulate the essence of the eatery & bar—enjoyable, flavorful, and always a bit unexpected. Moreover, Chef Saurabh Sharan is challenging the common misconception that Japanese cuisine is only about raw seafood. His innovative approach not only highlights the versatility of Japanese ingredients but also educates and delights diners with the wide array of dishes and preparations available beyond the regular sushi.

#GUPPYFIRST

Guppy has been a pioneer in introducing several Japanese innovations, often referred to as “Guppy First,” to the Indian culinary space.

  • Guppy introduced to Delhi – India’s first Poke Bar.
  • Guppy introduced India to one of the hottest international food trends – The Ramen Burger in 2015 before anyone else did.
  • Tokyo Mon Amour, a Franco-Japanese pop-up with French restaurant Le’ Bistro du Parc for a season to introduce Franco-Japanese cuisine.
  • Guppy introduced Batera Sushi (the oldest form of pressed sushi) in one of its seasonal menus in 2016 along with Sushi Crisps.
  • Introduced the healthy Black Rice Sushi option as an alternative to white rice. It’s now available in many Japanese restaurants in India.
  • As a part of one of the first Indigenous Black Movements in India, Guppy served shiitake, black fungus, daikon, and other tasty local ingredients.
  • Guppy was the first to introduce Mango and Avocado Sushi, with Tuna for Seafood
  • Guppy was the first to introduce a Japanese hotpot dish of fresh ingredients Nabe and Mitzutaki-inspired, slow-braised black Kadaknath Chicken.

The much-awaited Sushi Rolls are packed with a delightful lineup. One can pick from the Brie Cheese & Exotic Vegetable Tempura (Crisp-fried shishito pepper, avocado, asparagus, and brie in tempura batter; served with sriracha mayo); or the Enoki Mushroom Tempura (Crisp-fried enoki mushroom tempura, tempura fritters, and spicy mayo) for those who’d prefer to stick to a lighter vegetarian meal.

On the other hand for meat and seafood preferences, the Crispy Scallop & Spicy Cod Roe (Crab meat, scallops, mentaiko cod roe, miso mustard and sweet potato crisps) and the Kampachi & Jalapeno Roll (Yellow tail, jalapeno mayo, fresh jalapeno slice with sweet potato crisp), are both meticulously prepared & designed to elevate the overall sushi experience.

The Ramen selection is equally exciting: the Vegetable Garlic Ramen (Ramen noodles in garlic-flavored, light-bodied vegetable broth; topped with bean sprouts, leafy greens, and vegetables) and the Kimchi Pork Ramen (Ramen noodles in rich pork stock, flavored with kimchi; topped with vegetables, crispy bacon and shredded braised pork) are both soul-satisfying experiences that transport straight to the heart of Japan.

The complex flavors of cocktails are sure to create a gratifying experience that caters to both cocktail aficionados and dessert lovers alike. Celebrate and pick from a variety of drinks designed to delight and surprise: choose from the lovely Kisses, (featuring vodka, chocolate syrup, coffee liqueur, and fresh orange); the sweet Berry Berry Rosy, (which combines rosé tequila, strawberry cheesecake ice cream, and basil); or the caffeine-induced Pisco My Love, (made with pisco, coffee liqueur, vanilla ice cream, and espresso).
