Tell us a little bit about your legal career. How did you know it was time to make a change ?
I finished my legal education at the top of my class and therefore found myself employed at Amarchand Mangaldas. I worked there for 6 years and worked all the hours in the day. It was a great learning experience and gave the exposure of working with great clients. Art, started as a way for me to unwind. I was painting post-work and on weekends when I found the time. Slowly over time, people at work and my friends started noticing my work and purchasing pieces from me. It gave me a lot of confidence. I was not however very sure of pursuing it full time until I did an exhibition and sold out the pieces. That is when I truly saw it as a career option.
Q. How has motherhood been treating you? Where do you find the time to pursue art ?
Motherhood has been amazing, my baby is the light of my life and I am glad it happened in a year when I was able to stay at home and spend time with him. I am very fortunate to have a great support system so I manage my time in ways that I can be with him, the family and paint almost every day. I am also nocturnal so I do a lot of my work when everyone around is sleeping.
Q. You have gathered a huge following on the internet, what are the pros and cons of internet fame ?
I started taking social media seriously when I wanted to promote my art but now I see it as a great way to promote sustainability, social causes and products from the brands I like. I have figured out a way that works for me to handle my account on my own and have enough content to upload without letting it rule my life. I enjoy it but it is not my bread and butter or the my whole world and I am very grateful I get to pick and choose what kind brands I wish to work with and what campaigns I am comfortable being a part of. It is a balancing act.Q. Who are some of the women you find inspirational ?
I have been very fortunate to be surrounded by some amazing women, in my family my mother-in-law has been extremely helpful and supportive. Without her and the help I have at home, it would have been difficult for me to manage everything I am doing. My mother has been a huge source of inspiration for me. She was extremely hard working and devoted herself to raising my sister and I, all by herself. She was a single mother and it took a lot of work for her to give us the kind of upbringing she did.
