With daily life taking a toll on our bodies, it is imperative that we all take a break once in a while to get pampered, just so that we can function well once again. And an experience at the Amatrra Spa will give you that as well as more than just a massage in great settings.
Because people at Amatrra know that a massage is also about harmonizing your energies in a way that you attain that perfect equilibrium, or as Vedic texts say, the silence between recurring chants of OM where you are awake and attentive, as well as relaxed and eased out with yourself. It is precisely what gives the 45,000 sq.ft Amatrra spa at the Ashok Hotel it’s name, and much of its justified identity as ‘the place-to-be’ for rejuvenation, re-energizing, and being a new you, all over again.
Located on the Ground Floor of the Ashoka Hotel in the Chanakyapuri area of Delhi, Amatrra offers a soothing welcome for guests. Upon entering the place, there is this immediate sense of withdrawal from the world outside, probably owing to its earthy yet modern style of décor. Along with the traditional sense of calmness and tranquillity that comes with a place like this, Amatrra also brings state-of-the-art equipment in various sections: the swimming pool, gymnasium, treatment suites, steam rooms, sauna rooms, the Vichy showers, and even the Floatarium. The spa is equipped with Technogym technology and equipment in the 2,500 sq ft gym, which stores data about each member’s workout requirements, 7 high-power jets in the Vichy shower placed horizontally over a therapy station, all aligned with the 7 main chakras of the human body. Even the Floatarium, a psychedelic art exhibit, which is placed in the womb shaped room with star-studded fibre-optic lighting, all cocoon one in a series of nature focused Ayurvedic treatments, the main signature of Amatrra’s treatments.
After sitting through a brief meditation session, followed by a foot cleansing ritual, the experience of ‘Shirodhara’ and ‘Abhyangam’ could well be the main suggested treatments, both being ideal for rejuvenation, unlocking stress knots in the body, and calming the nerves. The therapists are experienced in a variety of non-conventional treatments such as Chakra therapy, Hot Stone Massage (basalt stones soaked in medicated oils), Shiatsu (Japanese treatment using stretch and pressure techniques), Thai Massage, Acupressure, and Reflexology, apart from a host of Ayurvedic treatments. The Shirodhara and Abhyangam for example, are administered by 2 therapists, whose Acupressure skills and knowledge are put to the test, as wrong pressure or strokes can cause more damage than good, or simply render the treatments useless. In terms of products (oil, balms, etc.), Amatrra uses those made in-house by the Mayar Group, which it is a part of. All of them get made at the WHO certified GMP facilities, which is a plus point, in terms of authenticity.
Getting a membership at the Amatrra Spa isn’t really for everybody. Beginning at Rs 1.30 lakhs (for diplomats), and Rs 1.75 lakhs for general members (taxes excluded), getting a membership is quiet a process here. After an application is made, the management verifies the applicant’s background, social circles, and financial status, following which a feedback is sent to the client. With the who’s-who of the city rubbing shoulders at the facility, the management makes it a point to get a thorough check done for those who wish to be a par tot Amatrra. However, after a successful entry at the facilities, one can pick from 4 membership options available: Silver, Gold, Black, and Diplomat, depending on one’s needs. This luxurious spa has been Delhi’s favourite for a while now and chances are, it will continue to rule for a long, long time.
