The biggest fashion event of the year has begun and no, we are not talking about The Met Gala; it’s the Olympics. Of course, Paris being the venue for this Olympics guaranteed some sartorial focus on the global event. Combined with the elegant setting the fact that the luxury goods company LVMH is one of the main sponsors of the Games and you have the makings of one of the most fashionable Olympics to date.

The style show began on July 26, when world-class athletes came together to celebrate the opening of the 2024 Summer Olympics. Each country’s style was represented by custom-made ensembles created for a specific occasion that show their national pride through color choices, and detailed finishes. But the fashion doesn’t end there. Every time an athlete steps onto the field, court, or track, they represent their country in carefully selected uniforms designed by their country’s brightest style stars. Here are some fashion statements that caught our eye and the ones we are looking forward to.

1. France: Berluti

Berluti, the luxury fashion house owned by LVMH, signed the outfits for the opening ceremonies of the French Olympic and Paralympic Team for Paris 2024. The athletes from the French delegation were seen wearing tuxedo-style inspired looks featuring Belruti’s signature burnished treatment on lapels in the colors of the French flag. This look was simple but had many important details. There was a fine Olympic logo adorning the side of the jacket. Labeled inside with the slogan “Artisan of all victories,” so that the athletes feel the support from Belruti as well as their whole country.

2. USA: Ralph Lauren

Continuing the 15-year-old custom, the American brand Ralph Lauren designed the outfits for the opening and closing ceremonies of the United States team. The result was denim clothing in the colors of the country’s flag. For the opening ceremony, the team was dressed in casual suits with navy blazers in red-and-white piping details. Undoubtedly, everyone is also looking forward to seeing them at the closing ceremony as well.

3. Canada: Lululemon

Vancouver-based Lululemon created the uniforms for Canada’s team for the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The red-toned silhouettes with performance fabrics and advanced construction were athletic while keeping the team stylish with customized Canadian prints featuring symbols referencing the art, architecture, and nature found in Canada

4. Mongolia: Michel & Amazonka

Team Mongolia was dressed by Sisters Michel, Amazonka, and Munkhjargal Choigaalaa. The uniforms were completed in just three months and featured a collection of fine embroideries with significant meanings: birds for freedom, mountains as a nod to the nation’s landscapes and hard work, gold and silver accents for a touch of elegance and the Mongolian national colors of blue, red and white to signal their pride and identity.

5. Haiti: Stella Jean

Haitian-Italian designer Stella Jean partnered with Haitian painter Philippe Dodard, using his artwork titled “Passage” throughout the designs, including on a full skirt and straight-leg pants. Both the male and female looks included a blue chambray shirt, woven in traditional Haitian style. The women’s look was topped with a sleeveless blazer made from recycled fabric, while the men wore a work jacket made in popular Haitian style and inspired by the designer’s grandfather.

6. Great Britain: Ben Sherman

Ben Sherman has designed the opening and closing ceremony outfits for the 2024 Olympic Games for Team Great Britain for the third consecutive year. This year designs have drawn inspiration from the cultural heritage of the UK to “promote unity and express a sense of pride”.The opening ceremony suit featured a bomber-style jacket with specially designed Four Nations Floral motifs of rose, thistle, daffodil, and hollyhock, representing the identity and history of each of Britain’s four nations. Paired with a knitted open-neck polo made from an organic cotton blend with a geometric motif in classic red and blue, and oxford trousers with a Union Flag tape waistband.

7. Ireland: Laura Weber

Laura Weber, the New York-based Irish designer created the opening and closing ceremony looks for her native country. The opening ceremony jackets were white which is representative of the belief that the athletes go to the games as a blank canvas, the feeling that anything can happen. The design included her signature embroidery throughout the design with the jackets featuring the athlete’s name for personalization. As well as a lucky four-leaf shamrock embellished brooch, the jackets featured a small opera pocket in the front as a nod to the suiting of 1924, when Ireland first competed.

8. The closing ceremony: Kevin Germanier

During the Olympics’s closing ceremony, to take place on August 11th, the finale will take place at the Stade de France titled “Records,” where more than 100 performers will engage in an extravagant display as acrobats, dancers, and world-renowned singers will take to the stage all dressed by the Paris based Swiss designer Kevin Germanier. He is known for his colorful, heavily textured, eye-catching looks, as well as his focus on sustainability. The costumes are being kept hidden, but we surely can’t wait to see his designs.

This year the eyes won’t only be on the games but also the fashion. The designers have very creatively developed clothing that not only represents them but is also largely representative of the athletes and their home country. While the opening ceremony is over, the fashion is not and we for sure don’t want it to be.
