If you are feeling too lazy to drive to the gym or it’s simply too hot outside to go for a run, yet burning all those calories you consumed last night is an absolute must, here are 10 great exercises that you can do at home, without the need for any equipment:

Jumping Jacks – We all have done these as children out of sheer excitement and without ever getting tired. Yes, they are always fun but what good are they as a form of exercise? Well, surprise – they are a great cardio exercise and good for warming up too.

Pushups – These are probably not on most people’s ‘favourite exercises’ list as they can be hard to do. But you can find easier ways to do them: do them on your knees, instead of keeping your legs straight or do them standing up against a wall. They help in building up arm strength and toning muscles in your chest area.

Leg Lifts – These are great for building muscles in your legs and toning those thighs. If you find it hard to do the exercise with your legs straight, try bending them slightly.

Crunches – This is the best exercise for getting those beautiful, strong abs we all desire. When you’re just getting started, don’t worry about getting your head all the way up to your knees. So long as you’re reaching the point where you feel the stretching of the muscles, you will get the benefits.

Walking – If the weather’s favourable, then there is nothing better than going out for a walk. You can breathe in fresh air and enjoy the greenery while your legs do the work. However, when the weather’s being moody, you can easily get an effective walking workout at home. Do brisk walking around the house a few times – it may not be very exciting, but it will do the job.

On-The-Spot Jogging – Jogging is a great exercise for your heart. You can jog on the spot at home while watching TV or listening to music. The only equipment you will require for this is a good pair of shoes to eliminate any stress on your legs.

Squats – These are magical exercises for your legs and buttocks. To begin with, you can try these by sitting and standing up again from a regular chair. As long as you’re doing a few repetitions, you will be providing some benefit to your body. With time, as your body gets accustomed to the posture, you can remove the chair and do it the hard way.

Lightweight Lifting – No, you don’t need to go out and buy expensive weights for this. Just use whatever you can find in your house: milk jugs, laundry detergent bottles, fat books, a heavy mantelpiece, or anything that gives your arms some trouble. Start out with something lighter and work yourself up to heavier items.

Dancing – Dancing is a wonderful and fun way to work out. It does not just take care of your heart, but it also lift your spirits and gives you an overall boost.

Step Exercises – If you have a flight of stairs, go up and down them a few times. This will help tone up your legs and you will also get some low impact aerobic exercise. Just make sure to watch your step.

So, use what you have in your house, and work out in the comfort of your home. You are more likely to keep up with the exercises when you’re comfortable, so just get up and start exercising!
