Bhanu Nehra has become synonymous with the person who knows how to channel our 90s nostalgia and Addams House in Sector 29, Gurgaon is his latest attempt in doing so. We all have fond memories of the Addam’s Family cartoon show: a quirky, spooky family that resided in a dimly lit house, had gruesome but interesting character lines and appealed to every kid of the time. Nehra’s Addams house will have you reminiscing the past while you enjoy some amazing food and drinks.
Ambience
The decor is true to the theme and each and every detail has been painstakingly refined. The walls are decorated with posters of the cartoon series. From the skeleton chandelier to the beautiful dining area on the left of the bar, the all over ambiance of the place is a sneak peek into the life of the Addam’s family. On one side there is a pillar with a larger than life statue of Lurch who looks ready to grab on to anyone who might try to escape. On the other side the huge French windows allow one to step away from the crowded Gurgaon atmosphere and revel in the fond memories of childhood.
Food in-line with theme
The menu has been especially designed by chef Arun Chandra keeping the Addams Family at the centre. The food is inspired by the inverted American Cuisine, which has been especially curated for the “desi” palate. From the safe players to the adventurous ones, everyone will have something to look forward to at this restaurant. They have designer sushis, colored tacos for the ones who want to just dip their toes in the weirdness. The blue berry cheese margarita will coax one into experimenting with their drinks. For the ones who are in for a challenge at the Addam’s House, they have the largest pizza in the country served on a 30” wooden base which is aptly named ‘The Real Estate Pizza’.
Mixologist, Siddharth, tells us a bit about his creations: “Each concoction has been given a unique effect. The drinks have been infused with dry ice and ingredients like carom seeds (ajwain) to make them look like a part of the whole facade. The taste subtly adds to the decor.” Moving on to the food menu, it is designed to keep it all tied together. The Pugsley’s portion is truly a well prepared dish as some special skills are required to churn out that perfect chicken breast. Another commendable dish is the ‘Give Me Red’: beetroot and other assorted vegetables are cleverly used to make an interesting and juicy patty which looks like there is something fishy going on with it, classic Addam’s House. The theatrics of the big butcher’s knife in the centre of the burger make it intriguing and that makes one more enthusiastic about the food. The final course of dessert is a true reminder that the strangest ingredients can bring out something spectacular if they are in the right hands. The Lurch’s Lullaby is an example of that. No one can imagine preparing a beetroot and semolina halwa with a New York cheese cake.
