Acne Vulgaris, or pimples, is the most common skin condition. Nearly everyone will experience acne at some point in their life, some may experience it early, while others may experience it later in life. It is important for parents to counsel their children that acne is a normal condition and there is no need to stress about it. They should also encourage them to meet with a dermatologist for guidance. Many kids lose confidence and become depressed because of acne, which can negatively affect their life and mental well-being.To prevent complications of acne, such as scarring and pigmentation, it is essential to know what to do and what not to do.

What Not To Do:

  • Do not prick or peel
  • Do not rub
  • Do not touch
  • Do not scrub
  • Do not try home remedies available on the internet
  • Do not apply things like neem and kapoor

Proper Cleanser

It is important to use a proper cleanser according to your skin type and condition. Typically, acne-prone skin requires a face wash with alpha and beta acids like salicylic acid and glycolic acid. However, if your skin is sensitive, you will require a milder cleanse, and if your skin is dry, you will need a hydrating cleanser.

Moisturizer

It is crucial to moisturize your skin. Some patients may wonder why they need to moisturize when they have oily skin. It is important to understand that our oil glands are active and producing more oil. Therefore, we need to use a proper cleanser to remove the excess oil, but we also need to hydrate the skin to maintain its quality. However, it is crucial to use the correct moisturizer prescribed by a doctor, or else it may clog the pores and worsen the condition

Sunscreen

We need to use sunscreen to protect our skin from the harmful effects of the sun. Always remember to check two things in your sunscreen:

  • Broad Spectrum
  • Non-comedogenic

Night Regimen

If you want to treat spots and acne, a night regimen is very important. However, it should be recommended by a dermatologist after an examination to understand the type and stage of acne and skin type. A dermatologist may prescribe retinol or tretinoin with antibiotics like Clindamycin.

Diet

Make sure to eat clean food, and your stomach and stool should be clean. Avoid junk food and fried food, avoid packed food, and eat vegetables and salad every day.

  • Make sure to drink 7-8 glasses of water every day.
  • Try to add yogurt to your diet.
  • Avoid sugary and refined food.
