Aquiet Gin revolution has been taking place in India over the last few years and it has resulted in some exquisite homegrown Gins that rival the best in the market. Here are some of our top picks

1. Greater Than

India’s first craft gin is also one of the most popular Gins in the market currently. Greater Than’s gin is a London dry Gin in style and nine different botanicals come together to make this gin citrusy and fresh. Besides Juniper, which is the botanical that makes the alcohol gin, there are coriander seeds, Angelica and orris roots, ginger, lemongrass, fennel, chamomile and orange peels. Pair with a slice of lemon and a crisp, cool tonic to savour the classic G & T.

2. Stranger & Sons

Conceived and created in Goa, Stranger & Sons’ London Dry-style Gin has everything from India, apart from juniper and angelica, and the spices in the mix come together to form a perfectly balanced Gin that has quickly developed a cult-following. Loaded with Gondhoraj limes, coriander, black pepper and cassia bark, you’ll feel all warm and fuzzy with pepper, nutmeg and a hint of citrus with every sip of this one. Check out their limited-edition options too.

3. Terai

This dry Indian Gin is made in Rajasthan and is a modern version of the London Dry Gin. This one uses 11 botanicals: juniper berries, tulsi, coriander, fennel, lemon peel, orange peel, lavender, rose, angelica and orris root. The Gin itself has a hint of sweet, spicy and a little citrus flavour as well.

4. Samsara

Samsara is also a Gin that has hemp seeds. This one is also in the classic London Dry Gin style, this one has hints of rose petals, vetiver grass, green cardamom and juniper. It is smooth on the tongue, and now has a pink gin too infused with flavours of rose and strawberry.

5. Jaisalmer

From the house of Radico Khaitan, comes Jaisalmer Gin, a triple-distilled neutral grain spirit. This one has a refreshing flavour and uses 11 Indian botanicals including coriander, vetiver, sweet orange peel, lemongrass, Darjeeling green tea leaves and cubeb pepper. If you’re wondering how it tastes, aside from the juniper being the dominant flavour, there are hints of liquorice and citrus too. This makes Jaisalmer Gin ideal in an exotic cocktail.

6. Doja

One of the most unique gins we have come across, it has Yuzu (a Japanese sauce), Sansho Peppers, Hinoki (a Japanese cypress) and Cedar from Japan, blended with coriander, pepper and cardamom from India. It is bottled and packaged in Goa, making it the first of its kind with a unique Japanese-Indian origin.

7. Tamras

Created by Khalil Bachooali and Devika Bhagat, with the help of master distiller Julia Nourney, this Gin encompasses 16 botanicals including coriander seeds, black and green cardamom, sweet lime, grapefruit, pepper, lotus seeds and fennel. We hear it also highlights juniper more than usual.

8. Tickle

Diniz, the head of Adinco Distilleries is the producer of Tickle Gin, a drink made with cold-pressed extraction to get the flavours from the botanicals. It is juniper forward and has hints of pepper and cardamom. The taste notes are fresh, fragrant, and subtly spiced.
